Kathal masala

So let’s start making the kathal masala in most easiest way with the ingredients which are already available in our house.

Steps to follow while making kathal masala:-

  • Take some water in a bowl with pinch of turmeric powder and pinch of salt. Now add 500gm chopped and washed kathal in it. Let it boil for 10minutes.

  • Heat 2tsp mustard oil in kadhai and add the boiled kathal and start frying it.
  • Fry the kathal for 10mins. And then take it out from kadhai.

  • Again heat 2tsp mustard oil in the same kadhai.
  • Now add 1/2tsp cumin seeds, 3black peppers, 3lung, 1tej patta and 1dalcheeni.
  • Add 3chopped onions and stir it for 2mins.
  • Add 2tsp of crushed ginger garlic and green chilli. Cook until aroma dissipates.
  • Now add 1tsp turmeric powder, 1tsp Kashmiri red chilli powder, 2tsp coriander powder and salt to taste.
  • Stir well to combine the spices then add 2chopped potatoes (optional) and fried kathal (jackfruit) in it.

  • Mix both of them until they are well coated with spices and cover it with lid for 10mins.
  • After 10mins open the lid, stir the kathal and add 2chopped tomatoes and cook until the oil separates.

  • Add 1tsp garam masala powder and splash of water, if needed. Cover and cook until the jackfruit (kathal) is tender , stir it occasionally.

  • Once the kathal is cooked add freshly chopped coriander leaves.

  • You can serve it with rice, roti, paratha or whatever you like it. It taste great with all of these.
